So much detail has gone into Ford's new off-road monster. We're suckers for a good Easter egg, and after a long day in the desert, we realized Ford has dropped some into the new Bronco Raptor. Frustratingly, the realization came while photographing the off-roader at the end of the day and just before our time was up with it. We asked if there were more, but the answer was just a nod and a chuckle as they took the keys back. Ford's newest monster truck is a thirsty beast. The Ford Bronco Raptor is set to be the most powerful version of the model when it goes on sale this summer. The four-door SUV comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 rated at 400 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It's also equipped with a high performance suspension system that gives it a taller and broader stance than other Broncos, plus 37-inch-tall knobby all-terrain tires. Back in September of 2020, Ford Authority reported that Ford Motor Company had filed a trademark for “Warthog,” which we believed at the time could foreshadow the name of an upcoming high-performance Ford Bronco variant, perhaps even what most believed was the upcoming Ford Bronco Raptor. Days later, Ford Authority spies spotted a Bronco prototype with “Warthog” written on a camouflaged panel inside the wheel well, seemingly confirming this fact. Ford said the 2022 Bronco Raptor would have more than 400 horsepower, and it cleared the bar with room to spare. Ford CEO Jim Farley has confirmed the official power rating for the new model on Twitter ahead of the start of deliveries this summer. Not sure what to think about this. Plus this annual fuel cost at $2,350 is probably more like $4k+ with what fuel is going up to. Then again, the Bronco is a purpose-built SUV, and it's not exactly fuel efficient anywhere across the lineup. Its most efficient variant is with the 2.3-liter I4, which achieves 20 mpg city, 21 highway and 20 combined. Adding the off-road-friendly Sasquatch package drops combined economy to 18.
