Has anyone installed the rear view camera for sale on Crutchfield…Brandmotion FVMR-1120? I’m curious how the install went and whether the camera is a quality upgrade?

is that the best on the market? I keep seeing ads for one from Wolfbox
I hadnt heard about the Wolfbox so thank you letting me know about it! I just looked at their website and the installation doesn’t look as clean as the Brandmotion one and for me I want something that looks oem without the wires dangling. The rear tire on a Braptor hides so much of the rear view that I really want something to be able to see behind me as I drive. So I’m not really worried about the extra’s like the voice controls. The camera mount on the Wolfbox is on the license plate as well which I’m not sure would be high enough to get a great view behind the vehicle. The Brandmotion has an adapter that attaches to the spare tire mount which seems to make more sense. The screen looks really nice on the Wolfbox rear mirror though.

coming from a RAM TRX, which had a camera rear view mirror standard, I am a believer in it. However, it wasn't something that I used full time. Your eyes don't adjust as quickly to the camera screen as it does to the mirror mode. I only used the camera screen for certain situations. Also, at night time the vision quality wasn't good when headlights behind you are hitting it.

I’ve seen the same ads and a lady installed a wolf box camera on top of her 3rd brake light. She said she loves it. I am on the fence about it as I already have a dashcam but I cannot see out the rear window…. 😂

I just did this install this past week with the wolfbox G900 Pro. Total game changer. I purchased an additional item, a power mirror tap usb plug to power it because I’m not fond of doing the hard wire fuse tap. It powers on and off with ignition button. Perfect for my purposes. I don’t need 24/7/365 monitoring. Highly recommend this unit. 4K front camera and 2.5K rear camera.

I had the Brand Motion. I replaced it with the Wolfbox. The Brand Motion washes out at night, badly. The Wolfbox is considerably better.

I did the camera installation inside the rear glass, which makes a nice improvement of the performance in the rain, important to me up here in Tacoma, WA

I’ve been having issues with rain here, on Long Island, lately. I’m contemplating moving it inside the rear glass since I have no intention of removing the rear roof section due to a rear shelf installation. That, and it’s a pain to do myself and I don’t have a garage large enough to take it off and store it.

Same. I have a Gobi roof rack, so that last section of roof won’t be coming off again.

How is the rear view at night with the tinted glass???
It works well. I will take a photo. Because it’s quite high up, the backup lines are not as accurate as they were when it was outside but I use the backup camera on the truck for that anyway. The mirror works fine at night (not as awesome as during the day but it’s leagues better than the Brand Motion)

I have had the Wolfbox G900 Pro for 3 months...The 4k front camera is incredible, truly amazing in all conditions (especially off-roading videos). The 2k rear is very average at best. I also had 2 flawed issues and had to re-install the wiring 3 times for a faulty wire, so that was not fun either. Their customer service is very solid, but the rear camera needs an upgrade in my opinion.

My 2+ Cents:
  • If your top is off in any way (daytime), "mirror" is totally washed out, so you just turn it off and use as a regular mirror
  • I mounted my rear camera under the existing reverse camera for max stability (if you mount inside your Raptor, you can't take rear cargo off, so that makes no sense to me)
    • Downside - only if you need the rear tire (5th)
    • if you mount on top of 3rd brake light it vibrates too much (again, for me)
  • Install is simple, but somewhat time consuming (I know, since I did it 3 times - uuuggg)
  • I had to move the rear camera angle many times, as at night the other cars LED are huge halos (again the 2k rear camera is the main issue - can't process light quick enough)
  • I also have a filter on the front camera (wolfbox sells this), which makes a huge difference
    • They do not offer a filter or better rear camera
      • The rear filter would solve many of the halo nighttime issues (they are very aware, but don't seem to care)

Bottom-line...I would still recommend, as the insane blind spot on these vehicles are obviously bad! The camera is game changer for 90% of normal driving and I really like the recording aspect too. For me the "gripey" issues, are worth the cost, as when its fully clear outside, its great!

I can’t take the 3rd section of roof off on my truck anyway, so inside the glass works for me. My friend with a two door added a quick disconnect in the wire where the other disconnects are, so he can de-couple his Wolfbox rear camera to take the top off. Requires some comfort cutting the cable but doable. I will ask him for a photo of his mod.

I have this Gobi rack, which precludes removing that last section of roof.

Good points all around. I totally get keeping the setup inside for weather protection, especially for folks who don't or can't regularly take the top off (I do and can). You're right, my external mount is more of a niche choice for my use case and then there is the height thing. Mounting 6+ feet up gives great distance visibility, but it's not ideal for close-up detail. Definitely something others should factor in depending on whether they need broader coverage or more detail around the vehicle. Appreciate the perspective!
