So over on 6G a few guys started talking about a cargo shelf and how for less than $30 you could easily get a 2' x 4' piece of MDF and it sits right on the "armrest" bump outs in the rear cargo area of a 4dr and functions as a) a shelf , b) a means for protecting other cargo from prying eyes and c) as a wind buffer for loose items when your top is down (it doesn't go all the way to the back door though) And since I am in the home stretch of my build date coming (6/2) and I'm "between work situations" I have alot of time on my hands. I decided I'd make a shelf for myself and since I wasn't keen on using MDF - since if it gets wet is useless. I wanted something with some pop and unique. So I started looking at youttube videos and came up with this (it's not 100% done yet but pretty close). Hopefully the pictures post in the right order - looks like reverse chrono order. But it is a shou sugi ban inspired torched wood, stained blue ( to match my interior)
I learned alot so this probably won't be the only one I do - can't rush it is probably the biggest thing. Clear coats getting done after the color fill cures. (also this was not even close to $30 - probably spent $300+ on materials and some new tools alone - but it was a fun project.
